چکیده
ABSTRACT We present a suite of high-resolution hydrodynamic simulations binaries immersed in circumbinary accretion discs (CBDs). For the first time, we investigate preferential rate as function both eccentricity eb and mass ratio qb densely sampled parameter space, finding that when compared with circular binaries, (i) ratios grow more efficiently on moderately eccentric orbits (0.0 ? 0.4), (ii) high eccentricities (eb ? 0.6) suppress growth. suggest this non-monotonic behaviour may produce an observable shift distributions stellar massive black hole binaries. further find response CBD can be divided into three regimes, depending ratio: CBDs around always precess freely, whereas either undergo forced precession or (iii) remain locked at angle respect to binary periapsis. Forced is associated strong modulation individual rates time-scale, potentially signature accreting short orbital periods. provide locking angles for our simulation suite.

An Eccentric Circumbinary Accretion Disk and the Detection of Binary Massive Black Holes
We present a two-dimensional grid-based hydrodynamic simulation of a thin, viscous, locally isothermal corotating disk orbiting an equal-mass Newtonian binary point mass on a fixed circular orbit. We study the structure of the disk aftermultiple viscous times. The binarymaintains a central hole in the viscously relaxed diskwith radius equal to about twice the binary semimajor axis. Disk surface...
متن کاملA New Approach for Probing Circumbinary Disks
Circumbinary disks are considered to exist in a wide variety of astrophysical objects, e.g., young binary stars, protoplanetary systems, and massive binary black hole systems in active galactic nuclei (AGNs). However, there is no definite evidence for the circumbinary disk except for some in a few young binary star systems. In this Letter, we study possible oscillation modes in circumbinary dis...
متن کاملAccretion disc evolution in single and binary T Tauri stars
We present theoretical models for the evolution of T Tauri stars surrounded by cir-cumstellar discs. The models include the effects of pre-main-sequence stellar and time dependent disc evolution, and incorporate the effects of stellar magnetic fields acting on the inner disc. For single stars, consistency with observations in Taurus-Auriga demands that disc dispersal occurs rapidly, on much les...
متن کاملPeriodic Accretion From A Circumbinary Disk In The Young Binary UZ Tau E
Close pre-main-sequence binary stars are expected to clear central holes in their protoplanetary disks, but the extent to which material can flow from the circumbinary disk across the gap onto the individual circumstellar disks has been unclear. In binaries with eccentric orbits, periodic perturbation of the outer disk is predicted to induce mass flow across the gap, resulting in accretion that...
متن کاملResponse of a circumbinary accretion disc to black hole mass loss
We investigate the evolution of the surface density of a circumbinary accretion disc after the mass loss induced by the merger of two supermassive black holes. We first introduce an analytical model, under the assumption of a disc composed of test particles, to derive the surface density evolution of the disc following the mass loss. The model predicts the formation of sharp density peaks in th...
